Day 1: Arrival
Arrival to Prague. Book your overnight flight with arrival in April 2025 (Sep/Dec 2025).
Start your adventure with a transfer from the airport to your hotel. After checking in, immerse yourself in the enchanting streets of Prague or join a captivating walking tour to kick off your exploration.
Day 2: Prague
Discover the heart of Prague with visits to iconic landmarks like Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and Prague Castle. Dive into the city´s rich history and uncover hidden gems.
Day 3: Czech Village and Český Krumlov
Learn about traditional Czech village life in Holašovice, a site listed on UNESCO for its unique architecture. See how your ancestors may have lived before emigrating to the United States. In the afternoon, explore the jewel of South Bohemia, the town of Český Krumlov (UNESCO).
Learn about traditional Czech Kroj costumes at the Kroj Museum, home to the largest exhibition of rural clothing in the Czech Republic. Tour Kutná Hora (UNESCO), one of the most beautiful and well-preserved Czech towns. Visit the famous Bone Church, where the remains of 70.000 people are arranged into pyramids, chalices, and other shapes. Make a quick stop in the village of Jakub to see a unique Romanesque church dating back to 1165.
Day 5: Czech Legends, St. Wenceslaus, and Wine Tasting
Learn Dive into the tale of St. Wenceslaus, the patron saint of the Czech Republic, who, according to leges, was tragically killed by his brother in 935. Visit key sites connected to his life and death, uncovering the history behind this revered figure. In the afternoon, explore the historic town of Mělník, known as the town of Czech queens. Stroll through its charming streets, surrounded by historical landmarks and beatiful vineyards. End the day with a visit to a local wine cellar for a tasting of Czech wines.
Travel to Lány to visit the Czechoslovak Presidential Chateau and the grave of T.G. Masaryk, the first President of Czechoslovakia. Tour a historical 19th-century coal mine, a significant part of Czech history, especially for those who emigrated to the USA. In the afternoon, explore the famous spa town of Karlovy Vary (UNESCO). Taste the hot springs and visit colonnades that have hosted famous guests from all over the world. Fun fact: a James Bond movie Casino Royal was filmed here, and my dad had a role in it!
Day 7: Castle, Bohemian glass and Spa Afternoon
Explore the fairy-tale town of Loket, home to a stunning 13th-century medieval castle. Continue with a tour of the Moser Glass Factory, where you´ll witness the craftsmanship behind the famous Bohemian glass, a tradition that has been carried on for centuries. Spend a leisurely afternoon in Karlovy Vary, indulging in the town´s famous spas, enjoying a relaxing massage, or drinking from the mineral-rich hot springs.
Day 8: Pilsen
Visit Pilsen (Plzeň), with its charming city center and the “Thank You America” memorial dedicated to the soldiers of Patton´s 3rd Army, who liberated Western Czechoslovakia in 1945. You can also visit one of the largest synagogues in the world. Dive into the world of beer with a tour of the original Pilsner Urquell Brewery, where the world-renowned Pilsner beer was born.
Day 9: Prague
Begin your day at Vyšehrad, the oldest part of Prague and a significant site in Czech history. Learn about the legends and myths that shaped Czech culture, and enjoy panoramic views of the city. Visit Slavin cemetery where famous Czech´s are burried, including painter Alfons Mucha or composer Antonin Dvorak. The afternoon is free for you to explore Prague further, shop, or relax at a café.
Evening: Farewell evening with traditional Czech kolaches.
Day 10: Ancestry villages or Departure
Departure back to the USA or a private trip to villages of your ancenstry. Me, my family and colleagues (who are historians) will accommodate your requests to visit the villages where your roots are. You´ll be guided by locals, not just driven around by taxi.
